The Yvelines owe most of their routes to the Chevreuse valley. Chevreuse and Cernay-la-Ville open onto the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse regional park: the Yvette and Rhodon valleys, state forests, châteaux and the abbey of Port-Royal-des-Champs.

The relief is modest but real — a hundred metres or so between valley floor and plateau — enough to give genuine climbs on narrow paths.

Versailles, Le Chesnay and Le Pecq complete the picture with the great parks, the Marly forest and the Seine meanders, reachable by RER from Paris.

When to go — Autumn is the best season in the Chevreuse valley. Winter still walks, provided you accept muddy bottoms.

OpenRando lists 195 hiking routes in Yvelines. The median distance is 10.6 km, and most routes fall between 6.4 and 19.4 km — from an afternoon loop to a full day out.

On the climbing side, the median elevation gain is 83 m, and the most demanding routes exceed 219 m. Enough range to pick your effort by season and by form.

The most common starting points cluster around: Chevreuse, Cernay-la-Ville, Versailles, Le Chesnay, Le Pecq, Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. Every route comes with its GPX track, elevation profile and interactive map.
