Hikes in Calanques of Marseille
The Calanques National Park, a natural gem between Marseille and Cassis, offers an exceptional trail network between sea and garrigue scrubland. From the secret coves of Sormiou to the vertiginous cliffs of En-Vau, each hike reveals a new panorama over the Mediterranean. The GR 98-51 crosses the entire park from Marseille to Cassis over approximately 28 km, offering an immersive experience through pine forests, coves and viewpoints over the Riou islands. For families, the Sugiton calanque is accessible in 30 minutes from the Luminy campus. Note: access to some calanques is restricted in summer (June to September) due to fire risk — check the national park website before setting out. Spring remains the ideal season, when the garrigue is in bloom and the sea is still calm.
