Hikes in Luberon
The Luberon Regional Natural Park is a paradise for hikers seeking authentic Provence. Between perched villages like Gordes and Bonnieux, cedar forests of the Petit Luberon and endless lavender fields, the trails offer remarkable diversity. The GR9 crosses the massif from east to west for trekking enthusiasts, from Apt to Cavaillon via the summit of Mourre Negre (1,125m), the Luberon's highest point. Trails around the ochre villages of Roussillon and Rustrel (the Provencal Colorado) offer colorful landscapes unique in Europe. In summer, the cedar forests of the Petit Luberon provide a welcome shady refuge. The lavender blooming season (mid-June to mid-July) transforms the plateaus into an unforgettable purple spectacle, particularly around the Abbey of Senanque.
