Hikes in Embrunais - Serre-Poncon
The Embrunais area and Lake Serre-Poncon, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes, offer accessible alpine hikes with grandiose panoramas. Between larch forests, mountain lakes and peaks exceeding 3,000m, routes cater to families and experienced hikers alike. Lake Serre-Poncon, France's largest artificial lake, provides a unique backdrop for your outings. The lake circuit (approximately 80 km) can be hiked in several stages, offering changing views over the turquoise waters and surrounding peaks. High-altitude lakes like Lac de l'Ascension and Lac de Siguret are accessible in 2 to 3 hours of walking and offer high-mountain scenery. The Chapel of Saint-Michel, perched on an islet in the middle of the lake, is one of the most photographed sites in the Southern Alps. The hiking season runs from June to October, as high-altitude trails are often snow-covered until late May.
