Hikes in Verdon Gorge
The Verdon Gorge, nicknamed Europe's "Grand Canyon", offers some of the most spectacular hiking trails in Provence. With vertiginous cliffs plunging into the turquoise waters of the Verdon, every trail promises grandiose landscapes. Whether you're a beginner or experienced hiker, you'll find routes suited to your level, from the Sentier Martel to the Balcons de la Mescla. The famous Blanc-Martel trail (14 km) descends into the canyon through tunnels carved into rock and vertiginous staircases. For a gentler approach, the Sentier de l'Imbut follows the left bank with passages between boulders. The best season for hiking the Verdon Gorge is spring (April-June) or autumn (September-October), when temperatures are pleasant and crowds are thinner. In summer, trails at the bottom of the canyon offer welcome coolness, though some access points may be restricted.
