Hikes in Gard - Uzes - Nimes
The Gard offers a unique blend of Roman heritage and Mediterranean nature. Trails around the Pont du Gard, Uzes and Nimes cross thyme and rosemary-scented garrigues, limestone gorges and stone villages. The variety of routes makes it an ideal year-round destination, with family-friendly hikes. The Gardon Gorge trail (15 km) connects the Pont du Gard to Collias along spectacular limestone cliffs, with swimming spots in summer. Capitelles, dry-stone huts typical of the Gard garrigue, dot the trails and bear witness to the region's pastoral history. The Costieres plateau, between Nimes and the Camargue, offers easy hikes through vineyards with views of the Cevennes to the north. The Gard is accessible year-round, but spring offers the best conditions with the garrigue in full bloom.
