Canals and rivers make up most of the network. Montech and Montauban line the Canal de Garonne and the Tarn, with flat towpaths shaded by plane trees, and the Montech water slope — one of only two in France, now out of service, built to replace five locks.

Saint-Étienne-de-Tulmont and Lacourt-Saint-Pierre open onto the Aveyron gorges and their bordering slopes, the department's only marked relief.

Beaumont-de-Lomagne, to the west, gives bastide country and farmed hills, with short loops between garlic fields and brick farmsteads.
