The Grésigne forest and the vineyard slopes share the routes between them. Larroque and Puycelsi frame the Grésigne massif, the largest oak wood in the south-west, ringed by a dry-stone wall built under Colbert to protect the timber for the navy.

Puycelsi, a fortified village on a rock spur, overlooks the forest and the Vère valley: the circuit of the ramparts serves as a start for several loops.

Gaillac and Coufouleux open onto the vineyards and the gentler Tarn valley, while Puylaurens marks the gateway to the Lauragais and its windmill hills.

When to go — October to June; summer is hot in the vineyards, the Grésigne forest then offering the only continuous shade around.
