Rivers and hedgerow country: the repertoire fits in two words. Pesmes, Marnay and Arc-lès-Gray line the Saône and the Ognon, with golden-stone villages, monumental washhouses and flat towpaths.

Vesoul and Vaivre-et-Montoille arrange themselves around the Vaivre lake and the Motte hill, standing a hundred metres above the town and offering the widest view in the area.
